The Lunch Problem

Hey everyone,

It's been a very busy week with finals, but well done on making it through the week. Good luck to those of you that have more finals next week!

At the moment The SRC's first priority is the school lunch. We have heard many complaints about the quality of the school lunch from the students.

The SRC wants to do everything to help, but there are some things we have to take into consideration. Here is what we have been discussing:
  • We can't really order for the WHOLE school from outside. It would take the restaurant a lot of time to cook 80 meals and get it to us while it's still hot. It would also take a lot of time to sort out the lunch when it arrives.
  • We have to work with the elementary school. Some things we want, they might not necessarily want eg younger kids can't have chicken with bone
  • We can do a survey. Ms Yeh has suggested that we do a survey after each meal. If the majority of us like a dish, we keep it. If the majority of us dislike it, we get rid of it.
  • It is also possible for students to order out by themselves. You are welcome to find a group of people, a restaurant and order food and have it delivered.
If you have any ideas, let us know. Feel free to leave a comment on this blog entry or talk to any of the SRC members. But do remember that we don't have much time to decide what we want to do and take action!

Christmas Time!

Christmas is fast approaching, and along with the season comes the...

HIS Christmas Lock-in!
The first sleepover party at HIS! Who's excited? I know the SRC is!

What: HIS Christmas Lock-In
When: Dec 16th 7pm - 8am Dec 17th
Where: HIS
Who: Everyone in HIS is invited!
Cost: $100NT

Activities include movies, games, Monopoly, Cranium, Risk, Uno, Twister, Wii, flashlight tag, hide and seek, gift exchange and much much more! Breakfast is provided and snacks will be sold at various times throughout the night.

Details are still to come! The SRC will keep you all up to date!

But first, a favor to ask of you all. Which Christmas movie would you like to watch at the lock-in? Please take the time and vote for one of the movies on the poll to the right. We will watch the movie with the most votes.

Due to popular request, we have decided that we will watch 2 movies on the night. Everyone will watch the Christmas movie, and then there will be two movies playing simultaneously (at the same time). One of these will be a comedy, the other will be a scary movie. The polls are up! Get voting! All polls close at 11pm, Friday December 12th! If you don't vote, the SRC will decide for you!

Comment with any questions! :]

HIS Soccer Team Victory!

Today the HIS Boys Soccer Team traveled to our crosstown rival IBSH for the first soccer game in HIS history. HIS won by a score of 3 - 2!!!

The game started out slow but soon enough, Jae Cho drove down the right side through 3 defenders and chipped a shot to the back corner, scoring the first goal for the game! IBSH then scored the next goal (with the help of our goalie Terence Liao :P). The game was now at a tie. The next goal was scored by Tyler Willis, who headed a perfect cross from Jae. After half time, Tyler tapped the ball past the goalie, sprinted to it and scored his second goal of the match, enabling HIS to win by a score of 3-2. Great work everyone!!!

Well done on a great game and the great teamwork! Thanks also to all the HIS-ers that went and supported our soccer players!

PS High quality pictures for the game can be found in the HIS Photo Albums, take a look here! :]

Yes, we can!

The SRC is now in charge of the HIS student blog. We will be making weekly updates now! We will be writing about news, thoughts, events happening in the school, and much more.

To kick the first blog entry off, history was made today!
Barack Obama from the Democratic party has been elected the 44th American President, making him the first black American President! The Civil War and The Civil Rights Movement have not been in vain; they were merely steps leading up to this day that will forever be remembered in history. America has come a long way since then; it has done us proud. It has finally shown us that, and I quote Obama's words, "Yes, we can. Yes, we can change. Yes, we can."

What do you think about this? Are you excited?

PS Check out the HIS photo album. Some photos of the Halloween Dance from last week have been uploaded!

SRC Elections

We are in the process of learning about our potential Student Representative Council members for the coming school year. They gave speeches and then participated in a debate. The final debate takes place today between the presidential candidates.

Students will be voting using the 5 Student Learning Outcomes as the criteria for deciding who will best lead our school.

With the presidential election coming up in the US, what do you think the criteria should be to measure Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain? Who is doing a better job in deciding how to choose the candidates, HIS or USA?
